The People of the United States of America

On behalf of the members of the National Council of Women of Canada, a federation of volunteers working towards improved social conditions, we would like to convey our sincerest condolences to the people of the United States of America, in the aftermath of this most unprecedented terrorist attack on your country.

Our hearts and prayers are with all those families, friends and associates of the victims – dead, injured and missing.

It is difficult to pay sufficient tribute to the selfless and courageous commitment of the many, many rescue personnel working under such dangerous conditions. I am sure that you are aware that Canadian citizens, as your closest friends and allies, are standing by to contribute help whenever and wherever it is needed, especially as exhaustion and full comprehension of the tragedy take hold.

We admire the extraordinary calm leadership and teamwork of your elected officials, from New York’s Mayor Giuliani to the President himself, following this heinous act on innocent people, at the same time you are to be congratulated for the alacrity with which the perpetrators are being traced.

The United States of America must be heartened by the show of solidarity from around the world and the commitment to unite and cooperate in a determination to focus on both improving security and endeavoring to eradicate the sources of terrorism.

God Bless America

With greatest sincerity
